The Proposal

Long-stemmed Red RoseI proposed to Sara on October 30th, 2007 at one of our favorite restaurants, French 75 in Laguna Beach. I set the reservation for a random Tuesday night, giving Sara absolutely no idea of what was about to take place. What made it even less obvious, was that I came down with the flu that morning. I actually had to convince her that I was well enough to go out to dinner. To make the night more meaningful, I wore the same outfit I was wearing the night I first asked her out, or so I thought.

We arrived at French 75 and were being escorted by the manager (who was in on the suprise) to our table. He then told us that by a show of luck we had the option to sit upstairs in their most private room. I looked at her with surprise and said, "Why not?" So we went upstairs and were presented with a romantic table for two that was a result of an immediate cancellation. The chef (who was also in on it) immediately began sending us amazing appetizers and champagne.

While waiting for our entrees I began to tell her how much I loved her. I told her a had something to give her. I dropped to one knee and with complete shock, Sara began to cry hysterically. Not only did she say yes, I got the reaction I had planned and hoped for. Another table who witnessed the proposal through the doorway from across the room began to clap. They sent over a couple glasses of champagne in celebration.

At the end of the night I turned to Sara and said, "Don't you recognize my outfit, it's the one I wore when I first asked you out?" She replied "No, it isn't.!"
